A support worker providing personal care at home

Our caregivers

The person who walks through the door is the whole service

Everything else — the plan, the scheduling, the office — exists to get the right person to the right door at the right time.

Hiring

What we screen for

Qualifications tell you what somebody has studied. They do not tell you whether they will notice that a client has not touched lunch, or stay calm when a man with dementia does not recognise his own kitchen. We interview for the second thing and train for the first.

Background screening

Every worker completes a Vulnerable Sector Check before their first shift — the enhanced police screening Ontario requires for anyone working with vulnerable adults. Ask us when a particular worker was last screened and how often we repeat it, and we will tell you.

Health clearance

Health clearance is confirmed before a worker attends a client. Ask us what we require and we will talk you through it.

Insurance

Families ask about insurance more than any other credential, and rightly so. Call us and we will tell you exactly what cover we hold.

Training

What every worker is prepared for before a first shift

Safe transfers and falls

How to move somebody from bed to chair without injuring either party, how to reduce fall risk in a cluttered home, and what to do in the first sixty seconds after a fall.

Dementia behaviour

Redirecting rather than correcting. Managing sundowning. Understanding that repeated questions are anxiety, not forgetfulness, and responding to the anxiety.

Dignity in personal care

Bathing and toileting handled so that an adult is not made to feel like a patient. This is a skill, it is teachable, and it is what families most often thank us for.

Recognising deterioration

What changes matter, what to report the same day, and what constitutes an emergency. Workers are told explicitly that raising a concern is never an overreaction.

Cultural and language matching

The GTA speaks more than 180 languages. Where we can match a worker to a client’s first language, acceptance is faster and care is better. We recruit with that in mind.

Knowing the boundary

No worker administers medication, dresses wounds or performs clinical tasks. Being clear about the limit protects the client and the worker equally.

Request a call back

Tell us a little about your situation and we will get back to you within two business days.

Want to meet the worker first?

You will. We introduce before care starts, and if the match is wrong we change it.
